On Saturday, I got text message right around when we woke up from Kathy and Jake (who we had met when we went to 1901). They were at DCA this morning and weren’t planning to stay into the afternoon. But since they had gotten there at rope drop, they had pulled two sets of Radiator Springs Racers Fastpasses before they ran out (they’d already used the first ones right after it opened). They wanted to know if we wanted to use the other pair since it wouldn’t be good until after they’d be gone.
Saying that sounded great, and thanking them for thinking of us, we started to get our butts in gear so we could get to the parks to meet them. We headed over after a quick lunch. Tracy had gotten these acrylic nails at Icing a couple days before because they reminded her of Jasmine. She put them on, wanting to show them off to the princess herself at the park.
As we rode the tram, I think we must have seen a couple Disneyland Cats because I took a picture, but they’re always too well-hidden to capture on the side of the tram.
We got to DCA right as Kathy and Jake were getting ready to leave (perfect timing). We met up at Kingswell Camera Shop where they were picking up their Disney Visa pictures from earlier that day. We chatted for a few minutes about how they had enjoyed their day in the parks and how they had gotten to meet Disney author Joe Cosgrove earlier that morning. We didn’t want to hold them up for too long because they had already been at the parks for several hours and were ready to get home, but they very kindly gave us the Fastpasses for later that afternoon before heading out.
Tracy and I headed over to Hollywoodland ourselves and took a Disney Visa photo with Stitch (though I can’t seem to find where that particular print ended up…)
He kept trying to communicate with Tracy and she could NOT figure out what he was saying. I had to be the translator between Stitch and Tracy because I was doing better at understanding his sign language.
After parting ways with Experiment 626, we decided to poke into Dancin’ with Disney, which had just recently opened at Stage 17. We had ABSOLUTELY no idea what to expect, but as it turned out, we had a great time!
As we walked in, the set of girl characters was just finishing up their set. We saw Cruella, who was just excellent at dancing.
Daisy.
The HILARIOUS stepsisters, Anastasia and Drizella.
Clarabelle the Cow!!
They were all just dancing to various songs, which were hosted by a DJ who was very obviously channeling Nick Cannon. It was totally silly, but these were all characters who are very rarely out in the parks, so we thought it was really fun to see them. Plus, they all stayed in character SO well while they danced!
Clarice the chipmunk was also there, though for the life of me, I have no clue who she is!
Once the first set of characters left, the gathering morphed into a free-form dance party for a while, and Tracy and I took seats on the side of the room.
After about five minutes, another set of characters was introduced. We had the Big Bad Wolf, the Genie, Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, Timon, Terk, Lilo, and Stitch.
Again, they all did their themed dances, all of which were fun. For instance, for the song revolving around Captain Hook, it was “Crocodile Rock” and everyone chased him with crocodile arms, while Timon’s song was “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” Here’s some pictures from their whole set.
Limbo!
Now, Tracy and I are definitely NOT your typical “dance party” people, but we just decided to jump right in today. It was a lot of fun just shedding our inhibitions and enjoying dancing in DCA with this random assortment of weird characters. Like many things, I think this experience got some flack from the cynics among the Disney fandom, but if you just went in deciding to have fun, it was easy to!
