October 1-5, 2013

October began pretty uneventfully. We were still watching Biscuit, and we didn’t really want to leave him home alone all night, so we barely even went to Disneyland that much during this week. We had actually planned on going the Mickey’s Halloween Party on the 1st (thinking it would be one of the least crowded nights), but we were shocked when it sold out before we could get tickets. We ended up purchasing our spots for a night later in the month before that sold out too, and we really started to get to work figuring out our costumes.

As though realizing it was Halloween month, Twilighty came to meet us for a nice visit at the beginning of October. She’s always so ridiculous.

On Thursday, we decided to brave a night away from the dog and enjoy some time at Disneyland. Once again, I tried in vain to get a good picture of the decorations along the tram route.

As we walked down Main Street, we saw that the exterior of the Candy Palace was undergoing a pretty thorough refurb.

We started (where else?) at Haunted Mansion Holiday. I loved noticing all the little details on the exterior. Every time I looked around, I feel like I saw something new.

I sort of wish this clock actually counted down to Christmas, though I guess the point of it is supposed to be that it IS Christmas inside the Mansion.

After our ride, we were already in the mood to devour another set of tasty Pumpkin Beignets. Once again, they didn’t disappoint.

We rode Pirates and then hurried over to take the last ride of the night on the Columbia.

We grabbed a spot on the bow right next to the live cannon. We knew it was probably poor planning, but we loved the views we got from that spot.

Heading through the hub after the boat docked, we again admired all the pumpkins.

Next we walked over to Tomorrowland and took a ride on Star Tours. We got sent to Hoth (which is actually one of our favorites now in spite of having been sick of it when we first got it endlessly) and Naboo (which is always fun as well). Before leaving, we took a spin on Buzz Lightyear as well and happened to get stuck right in front of Zurg for a minute or so. I didn’t get anywhere near my high score, but did break 200k!

Leaving the parks, we headed to World of Disney before heading home. We went straight to the Duffy room to see if they had an exciting new piece of merchandise we were on the lookout for, but it hadn’t arrived there yet. Heading home, we were glad to see that Biscuit had survived at home just fine without us.

Saturday marked the start of Gay Days at Disneyland, and while Disney was still refusing to “officially” acknowledge the event, they DID decide to offer several special food items that we really wanted to try, so we headed to the parks this afternoon.

After parking at Toy Story, we entered Disneyland to witness a sea of red shirts.

I was 90 percent sure that Bob Gurr was among the ranks of the supporters, but I only became convinced once I saw someone post about him being there on Twitter. He’s definitely one of my favorites among the true Disney Legends, and he just seems like a really cool guy.

It was another scorcher in the parks, so we headed toward the Monorail to escape the heat for a while.

I always loved looking down at the Subs from the Monorail station, and I’m glad the rumors of their demise turned out to be false.

They still weren’t allowing people to sit in the back of the Monorail, but we were able to snatch seats in the front. I still say this is truly the ONLY way to travel!

Speaking of Bob Gurr…

We took the entire round trip journey before disembarking, and then we headed over to Fantasyland. It had been a long time since we’d ridden Dumbo, so we did that next.
