Chapter 153
Back to the Beach
Looking at the food people were eating in this corner of the park got us hungry for dinner (even if it was a little early still), so we crossed over to Tomorrowland.
There was a special menu item we wanted to try at Pizza Port, so we stepped inside this restaurant for the first time.
As part of the Halloween Time festivities, they were serving a Mac and Cheese Pizza here as well (and this one was different from the kind we had tried at DCA last month.
One thing we learned here at Pizza Port is that this restaurant is probably the biggest rip-off in the whole Disneyland Resort when it comes to price. It was $7.49 for a SLICE of pizza (a big slice, mind you, but still). For a whole pizza, they charge a whopping $32.99! Oh well. We had already decided to try out the special, so we sucked it up and paid.
We also got a side of Breadsticks since we didn’t know for sure if the single slice of pizza would be enough to satiate the two of us.
The pizza was really good. I swear, we’re just suckers for putting mac and cheese on top of pretty much any food. It was also EXTREMELY heavy, so we found that it was pretty filling. The breadsticks, on the other hand, were not great. They were dry and pretty bland in spite of the marinara dipping sauce. It’s the sort of thing I would have complained about and tried to get a refund, but I just never feel like going to all that effort at Disneyland…
After we ate, I walked around the restaurant taking pictures of all the awesome retro attraction posters.
One thing we were really glad to discover about Pizza Port is that the seating is all indoors and air conditioned, which makes it a perfect getaway on hot days. We filed this information away in our minds to use during the summer.
Leaving Tomorrowland, we noticed for the first time that the trees planted at the gateway had some sort of giant citrus fruits growing on them. We couldn’t decide if they were just grapefruits or it was something a little more exotic.
We rode the Haunted Mansion next, and I finally got a good picture of our favorite stretching room portrait.
We got a time for the Matterhorn, even though I hadn’t gone on it for a while because I never know how it’s going to treat my back and neck. This time, I was clever (or at least I thought so), and I sat on the Duffy pillow pet so that I would have a buffer between myself and the seat. I also braced myself with my hands, and I didn’t get thrown around too badly.
Getting a time for Pirates next, we rode that before heading out. On the whole, it had been a very productive weekend day in the parks!
On Sunday, we decided to head back out to Laguna Beach since we hadn’t been there in several months. It was a gorgeous day as we parked in the same lot we’ve gotten accustomed to and started the walk along the beach toward the tide pools.
Tracy and I sat on the rocks for a while before we started exploring and looking for critters.
Here were some anemones.
Hello, Mr. Crab.
Lots of pelicans out on the island.
Climbing up the stairs and walking along the coast, we noticed that the views were as stunning as we remembered.
Seriously, I couldn’t believe this place was just a 20-minute drive from our house. It truly feels like another world.
We went back to the bakery we’d gone to with Tracy’s parents and picked up another macaron sandwich. It was delicious.
