Chapter 171
Feliz Navidad
We couldn’t stay away long after being so impressed on our first day of Holiday Time, so of course, we headed back to the parks after work on Tuesday as well. We mixed things up a bit and started at DCA tonight.
It was really refreshing seeing DCA dolled up for a holiday because they so completely ignore Halloween.
Making it down Buena Vista Street, we saw the big Christmas tree shining opposite Carthay Circle Theater.
And here’s an unobstructed view.
The wreath is such an unobtrusive but fun touch to put on the theatre itself for the holidays.
And here’s a shot back down Buena Vista Street toward the entrance.
I think we asked a PhotoPass cast member to take our photo with the tree, but both shots she took came out pretty bad because of the light.
While we wanted to soak up all the decorations, we were also hungry because we’d come straight over before eating dinner. So we made a beeline back to Paradise Pier and got a Hot Link Corn Dog from Corn Dog Castle.
I don’t think this meal could ever possibly disappoint.
While we were eating, they started to get ready for Viva Navidad by wheeling these giant puppets down the street.
I almost got run over by Santa because I was more interested in trying to take pictures rather than watching where I was going. Oops?
As the show got started in earnest, we wanted to watch, but all the decent spots had already been staked out and we could only try to take photos from the side.
Rather than giving up, however, we got in line for Jumpin’ Jellyfish and were able to enjoy a little more of the show from the queue. Then, when we actually boarded the attraction, we got to see it from a very unique vantage point above.
There are so many things to do and see during the holidays at Disneyland, and there is no such thing as enough time, so this ended up being the only performance of Viva Navidad we caught. I always hear such great things about the show, though, that I want to try to actually enjoy it from on the ground this year. The crowds on the other side of the attraction were a little easier to navigate, so we did watch the end of the show from a spot along the route.
I liked how lively and festive the whole thing was.
They have so many talented dancers.
And I liked how Mickey and Minnie rode by on the back of special tricycles on their way out.
After the show was done, we continued our loop around Paradise Pier. For once, there was no one at the meet-and-greet area for the Toy Story characters, so we were able to pose with that awesome backdrop.
We got a DAS time for Radiator Springs Racers and then kept walking around to the bridge that leads back to the main walkway. I was a big fan of the Christmas tree they’d put up near the gazebo.
I just really enjoy how colorful it is.
We headed into Duffy’s old shop and found that they’d gotten in a new hand-puppet, so Tracy tried it on.
We also liked the photo op area they had set up for meet-and-greets.
They had a ton of poinsettias around, so I tried to take some artsy pictures.
Continuing over to Pacific Wharf, we stopped into Ghirardelli, where the new giveaway chocolate squares were delicious peppermint bark. I tried to get a picture of the decorations both inside and outside the shop, and both failed miserably, but I’ll post them anyway…
And now, we got ready to make our way into a spot that we knew had gotten quite the holiday makeover. It was almost time to experience Christmas in Cars Land!
