On This Very Special Night

In general, we got used to avoiding the Disneyland parades as much as possible because they always contributed to such heavy crowd congestion, but we still had yet to watch A Christmas Fantasy Parade, and we wanted to check it off our list today if possible.
Since standing for the length of a parade is difficult for me, we decided to see if there were any benches available in the handicapped section. We were able to snag two of the last spots even though the parade was still more than a half-hour away. The sun was starting to set over Main Street, and it looked really cool from our vantage point.
While I held down the fort, Tracy went over to Bengal Barbecue to get us some dinner. She returned through the masses bearing a Tiger Tail and two Banyan Beef skewers—both delicious as always.
The sun finished setting and Main Street lit up with its holiday decorations.
It was completely dark by the time the parade started rolling toward us.
Our spot was interesting because we had a great view down Main Street itself, but it was a little hard to see most of the floats well until after they had started to go around the hub. Unfortunately, our views to the side were a little obstructed by poles and people.
Still, we enjoyed the parade and were especially excited to see our friend Duffy.
Here’s an example of our view straight ahead. Can’t really see too much because the floats are designed to be viewed from the sides.
This parade is so funny because the song doesn’t have any variations as different floats pass by. Instead, you can quickly memorize the entire soundtrack and then still get to hear it at least 20 more times. Of course, Tracy and I started singing along at some point.
We loved Pooh and friends sledding.
And since this was a year before the Frozen Pre-Parade would become a thing, Mickey and Minnie were in their rightful places aboard their ice skating float.
It was tough to get many good pictures, but here’s an okay one of Goofy and Pluto on their float.
This parade is actually pretty long when you consider all the different floats and characters it features.
Santa and the reindeer were the clear indication that it was coming to an end, though.
We found out sometime in the middle of the parade that the reason why it was so incredibly popular tonight was because the afternoon showing had been canceled. So we had double the holiday crowds all trying to cram themselves in.
Once the sun set, it started to get cold very quickly, and we found ourselves shivering by the end of the parade. We thought about staying in the park and enjoying a hot beverage, but we ended up just going home instead. That night, we set up our little four-foot Christmas tree and put up the Monorail set around it.
