Chapter 11
Research

On Wednesday, I worked from the Grand Californian for most of the day. I also popped into the parks a few times to do some research and fact-checking for my book.
I happened to get a picture of this sign one last time before it went away during the retheming of Condor Flats into Grizzly Peak Airfield. There’s just something a little awkward about it…
For lunch, I tried the Char-Broiled Chicken Sandwich (without guacamole) at White Water Snacks. And since I was already feeling like I’d overeaten the last few days, I opted for grapes instead of fries.
This has become my go-to lunch when I’m eating alone at the Grand Californian. It’s unique and really tasty.
One thing I’d had trouble doing when writing my book was finding a current listing of all the shops in DCA—and especially Paradise Pier—so I headed into the park to walk the promenade and take pictures of the signs.
After I’d done my loop, I headed to Hollywood Land and into Off the Page.
In the store, I saw a couple very flashy service dogs.
Ready for a snack, I got my first ever smoothie at Schmoozies.
I opted for The Dynamic Duo (Strawberries, Pineapple, and Lowfat Yogurt blended with Strawberry-Pineapple Juice).
I brought my delicious smoothie and my laptop into the Animation Building and set to work writing up some of the details I’d confirmed during my walk this afternoon. I gotta admit, I couldn’t complain about this “office” ambience.
I wandered through the Hollywood Studios area of the land next and took several more pictures.
I haven’t been back behind Award Wieners since MuppetVision 3D was replaced by Frozen, so I’m not sure if all these gags are still intact, but they made me chuckle.
I also took several more pictures of Condor Flats on my way back to the exit into the Grand (mostly for posterity, since I already knew this area was about to be gone).
And of course, I sought out Francisco.
Tracy was still in L.A. for the career fair that she was working at, so I was on my own for dinner. I’d long been interested by the description of the Bleu Cheese Burger at Taste Pilot’s Grill, so I gave it a try.
Unfortunately, I was not impressed. The burger itself was dry, and the bleu cheese was even stronger than I was anticipating. Plus, the fries were lukewarm and really not appetizing. It was probably among my least favorite meals at Disneyland.
Still trying to kill a little more time as Tracy made her way back into town through L.A. rush-hour traffic, I walked through DCA toward the exit.
I also caught my first glimpse of Oswald as I went.
That’s where my pictures end for the night because I think Tracy and I went elsewhere with her coworkers for a happy hour or something when she got back.
